This tour will take you to a place that is special even by Lofoten’s high standards. At Hov Gård Riding Centre is the restaurant Låven, on the top floor of a lovingly restored barn that somehow manages to be both spacious and snug. The original timber has been used wherever possible, the handmade tables are crafted from lumber over 100 years old, and the dark wood gleams in the cosy glow of the log fire. Specially installed windows offer stunning views of the sea and mountainous islands to the northeast while you enjoy coffee and cake.
Hov Gård is worth visiting for the restaurant alone, but just a short walk across the road is an unexpected and beautiful little beach, with the ocean going on forever. And what would a riding centre be without horses? Forty-eight Icelandic horses and two Shetland ponies live on the property, and those who aren’t out with visitors you will find in their enclosures just outside the barn.
The tour passes the reconstructed longhouse of the Lofotr Viking Museum, and among the photo-stops is the fantastic panoramic view offered at Torvdalshalsen.
